Candy Friday: Violet Crumble

I’m afraid I finally met a candy I don’t like. The problem with Violet Crumble is the texture. The inside ‘honeycomb’ is the texture of those crispy, baked meringues. To me that gritty feeling in the mouth is like eating chalk–not to mention the sensation. I simply can’t get past the texture to even talk about taste.

Clearly I was the kid in school that cringed in actual pain when teachers dragged chalk down the chalkboard. OUCH.

There are a few other, not so biased, reviews out there:

Btw, I found this at Long’s Drugs on Shattuck Ave in Berkeley.

oh man, don’t let the aussies see this! They tend to be very attached to their violet crumbles ;-) I’ve actually never seen it for sale in the States before.

Well, let’s hope this does not create an international incident! I simply couldn’t chew it, the texture and sensation against my teeth was on par with horrible dental work.

The cadbury crunchie has a similar flavor but not nearly the same freaky sound on the teeth.

(Yesterday I picked up some more rustic honeycomb at the local fudge shop, great flavor and perfect sounding texture.)

MMMM… I love anything with honeycomb. But I have always purchased chocolate covered honeycomb at specialty candy stores. I have never tried the violet crumble despite seeing it in a couple places.

OH no…here I am an Aussie…AND I saw this blog…it must have been stale, that’s all I can think. The telly ads for Violet crumble logo is “It’s the shatter that matters” So if it didn’t shatter in your mouth, it was stale!!
Never mind….I don’t like Hershey’s AT all, so I guess all is fair in love and chocolate! hahahaha
