A Taste of Irish Cheese

A while back at the Fancy Food Show I stopped by the Kerrygold booth and tasted one of the new varieties–Dubliner with Irish Stout. If a cheese can represent a season, this one represents fall. It has a nutty, full-bodied flavor, that finishes with a taste that’s reminiscent of classic Irish stew. The flavor that the stout adds is a complex combo of malt and yeast.
I can imagine nibling on a bite of this with some crusty bread on a cold, fall night. Dubliner with Irish Stout is available nationally at Whole Foods, and can be found at the below regional locations:
New England – Shaws
The Carolinas – Earthfare
Pacific Northwest – Haggen
Midwest – Jewel
Southern California – Gelson’s, Ralph’s

This is great cheese, and it looks very cool to serve as an appetizer. I put some of this out for guests a couple weeks ago and it got some very favorable ooohs and aaahhs. Crackers, ciabatta or any good sourdough (I’m also in the Bay Area so we’re admittedly spoiled in this regard) and of course a great Dry Creek red, makes for a great appetizer!
Good site, thanks!

I love cheese! I was supposed to go to wine and cheese event but I found more comfort in my fuzzy slippers.
I gotta try some good cheese!
Monique, I love cheese, too. Cheese and chocolate are two foods that I eat nearly every day.
Ooo, this kerrygold cheddar with the stout sounds wonderful! We got ours at Wegmans and they didn’t have this one, but I’m going to Whole Foods this weekend!
Natasha – I tried both the Irish Stout and the Whiskey cheeses, and preferred the Irish Stout variety. Then again, I don’t much care for whiskey, so I’m probably not the best judge.
Btw, I love Wegmans. I grew up in Rochester, NY, and while there’s not much I miss from the city, they grocery store has evolved into a foodie mecca–growing up in the 70′s and 80′s it was much less fancy.
That Irish Stout cheese is my new officially FAVORITE CHEESE EVER. I tasted it for the first time on St. Patrick’s Day at Whole Foods, and I am now addicted!
